Aeration of the soil is important to support living and breathing plants and organisms in the soil that need oxygen. As oxygen is depleted, carbon dioxide build up in the plant root zone promotes the growth of bacteria that are harmful to plants and are incapable of decomposing organic material.

Moisture Mizer™ expands to absorb water. This expansion opens and exercises the growing media by forcing soil particles apart increasing aeration and improving drainage. Once these particles reach their maximum absorption, excess water flows freely over and around the particles as it would flow over a saturated sponge. Plugging of the soil is not, therefore, a problem. As water is used the cells shrink creating natural pockets for air and root growth.

Thirdly, and most importantly is keeping the roots moist between plantings.

Uniform soil moisture levels promote more evenly sized fruit and vegetables

Since fruit and vegetables largely consist of water, subtle variations in the moisture levels of your soil result variations in size and yield, and mild water depravation can retard growth.

Variations in soil moisture are caused by uneven water supply, varying soil density, variable sunlight or wind, and ground grade. These factors cause water in some areas to evaporate or leach faster and water to drain saturating the soil in some areas more than others.

Moisture Mizer™ helps regulate moisture levels in your garden or farm by absorbing and making available water in uniform levels across an area. This is possible because each cell of Moisture Mizer™ will absorb water until a maximum absorption capacity is reached and this water is protected from leaching and evaporation making more water available over a longer period of time. So the gardener or farmer can use Moisture Mizer™ to increase the soil moisture levels in areas more prone to dry out, or to maintain more consistent moisture levels over time.

Reduce the effects of frost damage

Plants often will begin to thaw before the surface of the soil. This makes getting adequate moisture to the roots challenging. However, with Moisture Mizer™ already in the soil, water will be readily available to meet the recovering plants demands for water to survive.

Reduce how often and how much water and fertilizer you use

By increasing the availability of water and fertilizer to the root mass area for a longer period and decreasing the amount of water and fertilizer lost to leaching and evaporation. This means the frequency of which you have to water and/or fertilize will decrease, saving you money and time.

Superabsorbents...What are they? How do they work?

A superabsorbent is a material that acts like a super-sponge, absorbing and storing hundreds of times its weight in plant available water, releasing it to the plant on demand.

As water is drawn into the particles each particle will expand to over thirty times its original volume. As water is used by the plant, the material shrinks, returning to the unswollen state. When water is again added, the material will re-swell absorbing the water as described previously.

This shrinking and swelling cycle promotes aeration and drainage, a key element in developing healthy soil.

Superabsorbents remain effective through thousands of shrink-swell cycles and remain effective for several years.

General usage information

There are several ways to apply Moisture Mizer™. Dry application is preferred in certain situations, while wet applications may be a better choice in others. A number of alternative methods are described below. Select the method which suits your purposes.

Dry application methods: Always use measured, or closely estimated, amounts of dry soil or other growing media, and the correct measured amount of dry Moisture Mizer™. Due to the differences in make-up of soils, there is a limited degree of latitude in the exactness of measurements, but the closer you follow recommended dosages, the better results you can expect. Dry fertilizer can be added at this time. Evenly sprinkle Moisture Mizer™ on the surface and work it throughout the growing media.

Wet application method: There are two methods for using Moisture Mizer™ wet. One is used to treat existing plants which are not to be transplanted, and the other is for dipping bare root plants or sets. In both cases, Moisture Mizer™ is mixed with water to form a “slurry” (having a consistency similar to loose cream of wheat). If fertilizer has been dissolved in the water absorbed my Moisture Mizer™, it will be held encapsulated until plants need it. Allow slurry to stand for at least an hour before using. Leftover slurry can be kept in a sealed container indefinitely.
